ABOUT

My interest for watches goes back to the early 90s during the Swatch Collecting Boom in Germany. I was 16 and began to trade Swatch watches, got interested in swiss watches and together with my brother opened a watch store in 1996 in Aachen (Germany). That's when I really started to appreciate mechanical watches and bought my first, at that time already vintage Rolex, a Precision from 1961 which I still have. The business made me learn about watches and their brands, it was like training on the job, the only challenge was that I had no trainer. Communication with collectors, experts and clients helped a lot, the rest was pure research and learning by doing. During that time I developed my passion for vintage watches, historical watches with heritage and history.

For infrastructural reasons business was not that good anymore and I decided to move on and pursuit my degree in business. At the same time I joined a multi national Consulting firm which made me travel around the world including numerous visits to Dubai. I am a watch guy so wherever I travel, the first thing I look for is not the best Restaurants, but vintage watch stores. So in Dubai (I had visited maybe 30 times already) I couldn't find a single store for vintage watches. I spoke to a few friends in Dubai and withing a few months the decision was made, we did our market research and in 2011 launched the first Vintage Watches Store in Dubai, 7 months after the idea came up.

When it comes to Vintage Watches, education is key and since the market was not entirely ready for vintage at that time, we had to educate the market. I started to write articles for the local media and got my own columns in leading watch and lifestyle magazines. At this point I would like to mention that I am grateful that I can live my passion for watches during my work, every single day.
Today, 4 years later I am fortunate enough to say that we set Dubai on the global map for Vintage Watches.
