ABOUT

Angus Davies is a self-confessed watch fanatic. His interest in haute horlogerie has been a preoccupying obsession throughout his adulthood with him often succumbing to the temptations of ‘just one more watch’.

Having enjoyed the spoils of jointly owning and operating a successful chemical company, Angus openly admits to experiencing a sense of boredom in his early forties. In 2011, he took the bold step to launch his own online magazine, intended to impart the wonders of alluring aesthetics, comely complications and the flawless finissage found on the finest exemplars of haute horlogerie.

His rationale for writing about a timepiece is that it appeals to him on some level and justifies his efforts at feverishly typing on a computer keyboard. Primarily, his editorial focus is on reviewing timepieces which elicit excitement and perpetuate his passion for the creation of fine watches.

He now regularly contributes to magazines in his native England, as well as Switzerland and the US. Angus regularly travels around the world visiting various watch companies, both large and small. He freely admits he has a keen interest in movement finishing and the work of independent brands.

In 2012, Angus sold his other business interests to focus solely on www.escapementmagazine.com with his wife of many years, Heidi Davies. A business graduate, Heidi is an equal shareholder and plays a very active role in the company. As well as being Financial Director, she is the editor of the online magazine, helping to temper Angus’s sometimes over exuberant description of watches.

The larger than life Englishman successfully gained an MA in Marketing Management back in 1994. His field of specialisation was ‘establishing and measuring the dimensions that form the symbolic attributes of a car marque’s brand personality’ looking very closely at the luxury automotive brands BMW and Mercedes-Benz. This experience proves very useful in the world of watchmaking, where marketing fine timepieces shares much in common with the techniques employed within the luxury car industry. It is this sphere of excellence which has led to various watch brands and retailers seeking his consultancy services on a variety of tasks. Furthermore, he is often asked to speak publicly on different aspects of watchmaking at events and collector’s gatherings and, recently, appeared as an ‘industry specialist’ on the BBC World News coverage during Baselworld 2015.
